Today, there are many methods used to restore a decayed or broken tooth without impacting the aesthetics of your smile. At Glenfield Dental we use tooth-coloured fillings made of composite so that your smile is restored with a clean, fresh finish.
What are composite fillings?
Composite fillings are bonded to the teeth using a tooth-coloured resin adhesive that is placed onto the tooth and hardened with special light equipment. They are perfect for treating small to medium sized cavities and are extremely durable. These fillings tend to require less tooth substance removal during the preparation process and they last longer than the traditional metal fillings. The main benefit of composite fillings is that they improve the appearance of your smile and nobody will be able to tell you’ve even had a filling!
With composite fillings you get strength, functionality and natural aesthetics all in one treatment.
Why composite fillings are used instead of metal ones
In the past, you may have had a metal filling placed as a solution to tooth decay. However, as well as being unsightly in the mouth, amalgam fillings contain mercury. This material has been proven to be harmful to the human body. Mercury fillings can also cause fracture to the remaining tooth because they are placed in between two sides of a tooth, placing stress on the structure. As well as having a more appealing look, composite fillings are safer and better for your teeth than metal amalgam fillings.
At Glenfield Dental we use tooth-coloured fillings made of composite so that your smile is restored with a clean, fresh finish. To arrange a consultation, contact us today on 0116 287 9608.
